The quick answer: your road tax expiry is shown on LTA's OneMotoring portal under Digital Services, with your vehicle's details. LTA also sends the registered owner a renewal notice before expiry.
Renewing — the two things you need first
- Valid motor insurance covering the entire new road tax period — renewal is blocked without it.
- Vehicle inspection, if your vehicle is due for one (older vehicles are inspected on a schedule; the renewal notice says if yours is due).
Then renew through OneMotoring's digital services. Sorting insurance a couple of weeks early makes the whole thing painless.
Why it sneaks up on people
Road tax renews every 6 or 12 months, insurance renews on its own date, and inspection on a third — three dates that drift apart over the years. Missing the chain in the wrong order is how a five-minute renewal turns into a scramble.
